Do you want to come?
Why don’t you join [come with] us?

◆Let’s try the following exercises.

Q: You bump into an old classmate on your way to a coffee shop. There’s so much to talk about, but it’s raining and you’d like to go indoors. What would you say?
A: I’m going to get some coffee. Do you want to come?

 


Q: You and your brother decide to go fishing. As you are leaving the house, your good friend Jamie, who also loves fishing, stops by. What would you say?
A: My brother and I are going fishing. Why don’t you join us?

 


Q: You and your colleague are discussing a plan to go rock-climbing tomorrow. Another colleague overhears the conversation, and mentions that she also likes to go rock-climbing, so you decide to invite her too. What would you say?
A: I didn’t know you liked rock-climbing too. You’re welcome to join us tomorrow.

Q: You recently moved to a new neighborhood, and you don’t know a lot of people yet. You decide to invite your neighbor over to your house for dinner to get to know him better. What would you say?
A: I’d like to invite you for dinner at my home.

 


Q: You’re a member of a book club and will host a meeting at your house next week. Your goal is to invite as many interested people as possible. A lady you meet at a dentist seems like the kind of person who would enjoy joining the book club. What would you say?
A: I’m hosting a book club meeting next week. Would you like to join us?

 


Q: During a friendly chat with your business client, you discover that you both love to play golf. You’d like to go golfing with him sometime to strengthen the relationship. What would you say?
A: I was wondering if you would like to play golf together sometime.
